How is herpes transmitted?

Herpes is one of the most common infections in Denmark and is spread through close physical contact, sex and kissing. Most people have been infected before they are 5 years old and if you have a herpes outbreak you should not kiss or hug anyone and you should not be in close contact with newborns. If newborns become infected with herpes it can be very serious and can lead to blindness. Do not touch the wound, you can infect other parts of the body and the wound can become infected with bacteria. Wash your hands often and avoid kissing and having sex during the outbreak.
